Mama Linda here:
Lately I’ve had the urge to sew. My budget is tight so the first thing I did was look around the house for fabric that I could recycle. It is amazing what you can find when you look. I cam up with five and a half yards from a long skirted Halloween costume that I had made ages ago. I didn’t even have to buy a pattern. I used an old apron that I had to cut around to make my new one!
Soon we’ll have photos of the fantastic aprons, but until then I thought I would just remind you that you can make things on the cheap, if you just dig a little deeper in your wardrobe.

Hello Mama’s well time is flying by and we find the season changing yet again. Fall is by far my favorite season a time to sit back and enjoy the bounties of your harvest. What better time to gather around a fire and share some of those bounties with friends and family.
Having a get together doesn’t have to be expensive or time consuming to do. Here are a few ideas for fall gathering. Make a big ol’ pot of chili or for those of you who have gardens a pot of veggie stew, call some friends and invite them over. Have them bring side dishes and drinks, light a fire and you have a ho down.
Because you might as well have a little fun before the seasons change again. When Winter comes we will all want to be snuggle up in our nests until spring or at least that is where this Mama will be. So my advice for fall is eat, drink and be merry and then get your house ready for winter. Mama Leia signing out to go party.

Hello out there! Mama Leia here with some fun ideas for a weekend day outing.
Yesterday my family which consists of Ian, my husband, Collin, who is 11, and Fiona who is almost 2, went to the Anderson County Burgoo and Bourbon Festival. We had more fun than we all thought we would heading out the door that morning.
When we got there we found out that there were quite a few free things the kids could do. Fiona painted a pumpkin while Collin had an archery lesson. We bought two huge cups of Burgoo (a traditional southern game stew) and shared them. They had a free concert of bluegrass music as well as a civil war reenactment camp.
I started the day off with $20 and finished it with none but it was money well spent building family memories and after all you can’t even take a family of four to the movies for that these days. We got way more than two hours worth of entertainment and memories that will last a life time. Frugal living isn’t about spending nothing but rather finding value in what you have.
So check out those small town festivals close to home you might find they have a lot to offer.

We here at Moonshine Mamas are ready to begin posting on a regular basis. Yeehaw1 We know you are excited, because we certainly are.
In honor of our fresh start with the web page, I’m starting fresh with my attempts at home management. There are countless systems of home management out there, but ours has one thing that some others seem to lack: Portability.
Our Moonshine Manifesto easily fits into a purse for simple transport, and can be thrown together all on your own, easy peasy. In future weeks, look for PDFs of some of our basic sheets to get you started, as well as some simple directions. Read the rest of this entry »

If you have found this page, you have found us in our infancy.
We are the Moonshine Mamas, out to save the world (or at least our own butts) through frugal living, friendship, and kindness to the environment. There will be tips, tutorials, and occasional rants and raves. There will eventually be a forum set up so you all can join in on the fun.
If you have anything you’d like to see here, please let us know and we’ll oblige if we can and if we feel like it, whichever wins out at the time.
